Physical Disability & Sensory Impairment
In London around 578,000 or 19 per cent of households contain at least one person with a limiting long term illness, health problem or disability which limits their daily activities or the work they can do.
A small national team for physical disability and sensory impairment delivers a programme aimed at improving services for disabled people and their carers through each of the CSIP regions.
The team aims to support local services in their understanding and implementation of national policy for disabled people of all ages including those with sensory impairment and identify and share good practice and innovation.
Current work focuses particularly on policy areas in the White Paper Our Health, Our Care, Our Say, the National Service Framework (NSF) for Long-Term conditions, Improving the Life Chances of Disabled People, the Specialist Commissioning Framework and the Health and Wellbeing Commissioning framework.
In particular it includes work to support:
- the transition of the NSF for Long Term Conditions to mainstream local delivery
- learning and development in the application of telecare and telehealth in the delivery of housing, health, social care and support services
- learning and development in the area of personalisation of social care services
