Social Inclusion in Mental Health
Those who have experienced a severe mental illness frequently find themselves at risk of becoming excluded from mainstream society. Key to helping people to remain or become included in society are employment and stable accommodation. The Mental Health and Social Inclusion programme works to support people with experience of mental illness to be more included through improved opportunities to find work or other meaningful occupation and stable housing. Another important barrier is stigma and discrimination – the attitudes and behaviour exhibited by society towards these who have a mental illness.
We work with a range of NHS, Local Authority, third sector and other community organisations, employers and trade unions across London to deliver our programme.
PSA 16 is the direction of national policy in relation to social exclusion. We work closely with the Deputy Regional Director for Social Care’s team at Government Office for London to support the implementation of this PSA for those using secondary mental health services.
