This is the first time that capabilities for working with combined mental health and substance use problems have been clearly identified and defined.

It highlights the roles and responsibilities of the various agencies in providing care for people with dual diagnosis and highlights training and service developments that will be required to implement the framework in practice.

This is an advanced module for Dual Diagnosis which makes explicit links to the Ten Essential Shared Capabilities (ESC)   Click here  and incorporates these capabilities into the competency framework

The Ten Essential Shared Capabilities (ESC) lay out the core practice standards that all mental health practitioners (regardless of role) are expected to achieve. The ESC are deliberately focused on the expectations of Service User and Carers when considering the type of care they would like to receive. The ESC have the potential to set a common and consistent foundation on which to develop high quality Service User and carer centred mental health
