Mental Health First Aid for Prisoners

Mental Health First Aid is the help provided to a person developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. In collaboration with NIMHE colleagues, we developed a specific Mental Health First Aid programme as a potential model for targeted and in-depth mental health training across the Criminal Justice System in London.

We sponsored two prison staff members to complete MHFA. On completion of the course, the trainers lead MHFA sessions across London to evaluate the current MHFA training course, including training materials, for application in the criminal justice system. In the following year, we plan to develop the materials further for use in the criminal justice system, especially for probation and courts staff training.
