COMMISSIONING

World Class Commissioning

World Class Commissioning is designed to transform the way health and care services are commissioned by taking more strategic and long-term approach to commissioning services, with a clear focus on delivering improved health outcomes.

There are four key elements to the programme; a vision for world class commissioning, a set of world class commissioning competencies, an assurance system and a support and development framework.

Further information, policy guidance and toolkits are available on the Department of Health website.

Commissioning Support Programme for Children's Trusts

DCSF has established a Commissioning Support Programme with the aims of transforming the commissioning of services for children, young people and families by Children's Trust partners and improving outcomes by improving capacity and capability in services.

The programme will run until April 2011 and will cover the commissioning of all services for children and young people, including both health and education.

In developing the programme DCSF carried out a consultation with a sample of practitioners in local authorities and Primary Care Trusts across the country to find out what the sector wanted from the programme.  Feedback has shaped and led initial planning for the programme and practitioners will continue to have an influential role as more detailed plans develop.

The Commissioning Support Programme website contains guidance, case studies, toolkits and resources.

Making Ends Meet – a website for managing money in social services

The website, joint badged with the Audit Commission, the Social Services Inspectorate and the Welsh Assembly, contains on-line training and support materials in commissioning.  The commissioning module has a specific section on services for disabled children.
