Maternity Services Commissioning Project
- The project focuses on improving the commissioning of maternity services following the Healthcare Commission Report (Jan 2008) on the performance of Provider Trusts and the requirement to deliver on improved access, choice and safety.
- The aim is to develop a systematic approach to the commissioning of maternity services in London, based on the principles of world class commissioning. This includes improved local needs assessments, improved relationships with provider trusts and greater clarity at a local level for women on how to access maternity services, to meet the new 12 week indicator.
- During 07-08, as part of the Early Adopter Site Programme, the Project Team worked with practitioners to develop a Core Offer and Outline Service Specification for London’s maternity services. This work was launched at an event in November 2007. Details of the event can be found on the National CSIP website.
- These documents were adopted by the London Commissioning Group in April 2008, and their use will form part of NHS London’s assessment of PCTs’ commissioning strategies in the autumn of 2008.
- NHS London is funding the Project to continue to work with commissioners in 08-09, in a series of seminars exploring key elements in the strategic commissioning process. All documents resulting from this work as it develops will be posted here, for dissemination across London:
