DATA

Disabled children population

Data relating to the number of disabled children is problematic due to the fact that there is no single definition of disability and that agencies record information in different ways.

Thomas Coram Research Institute report for DSCF Disabled Children: Numbers, Characteristics and Local Service Provisionhighlights the difficulties with the data currently available but draws comparisons using published figures.

The report estimates the number of disabled children in England to be between 288,000 and 513,000. The mean percentage of disabled children in English local authorities is estimated to be between 3.0% and 5.4%.
